Following this, a second story and the Grand Ballroom were constructed and The Palais became the number one place to stay in the Blue Mountains, maintaining a reputation for being the most charming accommodation for the most affluent guests in the region well into the 1950s. In the 70s, The Palais became the Commonwealth Bible College, with the famous ballroom used as a lecture theatre. It wasn’t until 1997 that the hotel was resold again and a multi-million dollar restoration began turning it into the exceptional hotel it is today! Dining at the Heritage Hotel Katoomba
Enjoy a continental breakfast as well as hot cooked items in our heritage dining room in Gazelles restaurant on the lower level of The Palais Hotel. Gazelles is the reinvigorated restaurant in the same place the original dining room was initially constructed some 75 years ago. It retains the old-world charm from the bygone era and even consists of replica dining chairs designed and built specifically to match the chairs that were initially used. Along with three original and two faithfully reproduced sets of leadlight windows, the chairs contribute to the ambience of the restaurant. The polished floorboards, fireplace, light fittings and colour scheme are all part of the design which is uniquely suited to the Palais Royale.
In addition to our fabulous Gazelles restaurant, the excellent Bar Royale is open every day, serving tea, coffee and a selection of wines and beers.
